Finding the Hidden Badge (officially titled the “Anomaly X” or “??? Badge”) in HauntScape is the game’s toughest challenge. Because this game was created for the 2026 Developer Challenge, the secrets are tucked away in areas that most players walk right past.
🏆 How to Get the Hidden Badge: “The Forgotten Resident
1. Locate the Library (Floor 2)
Head to the second floor of the mansion. Look for the Grand Library (the room with the tall, glowing bookshelves).
2. The Invisible Lever
Don’t look at the books—look at the floorboards near the fireplace. There is one board that is slightly darker than the others.
- Action: Stand on the dark board and press ‘E’ (or tap the interact icon). You won’t see a lever, but you will hear a heavy stone sliding sound.
3. Enter the Secret Study
A painting on the opposite wall will slide open, revealing a small, dusty room.
- The Trap: Do NOT touch the glowing blue vase on the desk. Touching it will teleport you back to the lobby and reset your progress.
4. Find the “Resident’s Diary”
On the floor behind the desk, there is a discarded book called the Resident’s Diary.
- Action: Equip your Flashlight and shine it directly on the book. A ghostly figure will appear for 3 seconds.
- Badge Trigger: You must walk through the ghost before it disappears.
Success: Once you pass through the ghost, the “Hidden Badge” notification will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen.
💡 Why Can’t I Find the Dark Board?
If the board isn’t appearing, it’s likely due to one of these two reasons:
- Server Age: The hidden badge only spawns in servers that have been active for at least 10 minutes. If you just joined a brand-new server, wait a few minutes.
- Flashlight Required: You cannot trigger the ghost without a Flashlight equipped. If you don’t have one, you can find a free one in the Kitchen Pantry on Floor 1.
